The Revolutions Essay A revolution is a relatively sudden and absolutely drastic change. This may be a change in the social or political institutions over a relatively short period of time or a major change in its culture or economy. Some revolutions are led by the majority of the populace of a nation, others by a small band of revolutionaries. These periods are called revolutions as they are capable of bringing significant modifications in an existing constitution. Within revolution itself, however, repetition also plays a crucial role.    The revolution must strike twice: once for the form, once for the content. Revolution and revolutionary attempts which occur in the present appear as a means of vindicating the past, of redeeming the past.   Every revolutionary effort seeks to correct the mistakes of the past.   Revolution is the repetition of past mistakes, in a way which vindicates the present, and provides for the future.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚     Revolutionary changes are  taking place on a gigantic scale under our very eyes without our  realization of their trend and significance. We are in the midst  of the mad whirl of this raging world hurricane so that our mental  vision is obscured; our mind is paralyzed by the very magnitude  of the furious struggle of frenzied social and psychic forces. Man and  society are now being forged into new forms. In theoretical terms, the direct cause of a revolution is generally expressed in terms of two sets of conditions objective and subjective factors. Objective Factors are the things outside your head, independent (at least directly) from your thoughts and emotions. If you get laid off work, if a war starts, if it rains on you on your way to the pub, you cant change things by closing your eyes and wishing them away. Of course, your thoughts may have an indirect effect, when they lead to action, like joining a union or remembering your umbrella, but  generally you dont have much control over what happens in the world . The objective factors in a revolution are events outside the control of any individual or small group, such as a stock-market crash or an invasion, which lead people to re-examine their society, and, possibly, act to change it. For example, changes in British society at the end of the second World War2 were triggered to a certain extent by the hardships of war. Subjective Factors, on the   other hand, are the things inside your head your thoughts on life , the universe and everything, down to whether you think it will start raining while youre on   your way to the pub (it will bring your umbrella!). Since the subjective factors in a revolution are those that depend on individual people, they are obviously the ones that revolutionary groups try to change. Of course, there can be no strict division between subjective and objective factors it is the thoughts in your head that decide whether or not you will join a union, vote for a strike or pass a picket, which side of the barricade you will be on. Equally, your decisions, and the actions that result from them, will have an effect on the ideas of the people around you. Opportunity for revolution only arises at particular times, when both the subjective and objective conditions necessary for success are present at the same time. A social revolution is a fundamental and relatively rapid transformation of social, political, and economic institutions, and it is accompanied by mass-based insurrection. Further, change in the socio-political and economic institutions has to occur in a mutually reinforcing fashion and the change till now has brought capitalism and socialism and has created mass – production techniques without which it is difficult to even imagine life right now. Social factors responsible for a revolution to occur encompass a wide range starting from the social ills to the wide spread communal disharmony. Society plays a crucial role in giving a drastic kick in a revolution to occur. Failure of reforms, natural calamities and lack of transparency can be the possible social causes accelerating a revolution. Intellectual causes are difficult to quantify in terms of their effects, but they are nonetheless important in effecting actions and ideologies of participants. Intellectual causes can range from  economic exploitation to discrimination at various levels.   Basically be it any sort of revolution it starts at an intellectual level. While the non-dogmatic and open-ended character of a tradition does ease the problems of modernization, especially in the initial stages, the same tradition must be able to maintain social   order. Political stability is one of the basic conditions for sustained development.  Such stability stems from shared value system emanating usually from religion in most traditional societies. The value system engenders social consensus and makes political stability possible. A well-ordered society is as important a consideration as economic resources before the consideration of any investment company. Since modernization is essentially a vocational civilization, it presupposes discipline and work culture. Connections between literate culture and modernity are obvious, but often ignored in development literature. Industry runs on oil but modernity operates on the basis of literacy as a minimum requirement. In due course high literate cultures flourished in societies where world religions had penetrated. This is where the transformation has its base culture too is a dynamic term it keeps changing for the better and the cultures which resist change are blown away with the Wind of Revolution and a new modified culture sets in . Thus the cultural preconditions of a revolution are exigencial necessity by which modernization began in leading Asian societies , instrumental utility that drives societies towards industrialization that can produce power , plenty and progress and elective affinity refers to the way in which the members of a society easily accept those changes or apparently new ideas which have echoed in their past experiences. 3 Revolutions and revolts in general are connected in some way or other with direct, obvious, physical discomfort, especially hunger, and possibly lack of clothing and fuel. Not that this is the cause of revolutions; the causes are quite different. A match will cause an explosion in a powder magazine, but not in a tank of water; and similarly a famine will bring about a revolution in a society where the underlying conditions are such as to favor the spread of such ideas and where other proper circumstances are present. Now, all such matters as lack of nutrition and lack of heat are dependent in great degree on the climate. In a cold country, a severe winter is directly a cause of physical discomfort; people freeze in such weather. Further, the early frosts preceding a cold winter lessen the crop, transportation becomes difficult, and generally a famine is more likely to result in such a year. In a warm country, a similar result occurs when the summer is excessively hot, the heat parching and drying the crops so that food is scarce can at one stage lead to a revolution . When people are involved in struggle, even for limited goals, this causes them to question wider issues, and become more open to new and radical ideas. Aristotle rightly said that â€Å" Revolutions are not about trifles , but spring from trifles.† The consequences of a revolution can have a wide range starting from discontent in some to contentment in majority , from undemocratic to a democratic consensus from efforts to life sacrifices and from a smaller to a wider horizon in life . The revolution is a median point this side of spontaneity against the prospect of waiting for the revolution to create itself according to Lenin. Thus history itself heals no wounds, history itself is not an autonomous abstract process, but is the result of labor in any sense: intellectual, manual, or evolutionary. Activities and Documentation for Childcare Business Nabeelah Lallmamode Explain the documentation that is required to be kept when running a child care business from a home setting. Businesses are governed by legislations and requirements that help support it’s continuity. In this assignment we will be looking closely at the documentation and it’s importance to guaranteeing a successful and child friendly business. CRB check, Child Record form, Accident and Emergency forms to more legally abiding forms such as the contract between the caregiver and receiver, are all in place to ensure practices are followed correctly. Various regulatory bodies such as Ofted[1] are there to ensure that this type of business is coherent to the legislations and rules to ensure a healthy and safe environment for the recipient The Child Record, helps to provide us with basic but mandatory information on the child. It also provides us with next of kin details and any other contact information that is essential to the child wellbeing and safety. It is a good practice to keep all forms directly related to the child grouped together such as medical records, existing injuries and accident forms. Medical records are vital to maintaining a child’s wellbeing whilst in care. It details information on the existing medical condition and allergies as well as prescribed and non-prescribed medication. There should be a signed consent form for the worker to administer medication should the need arise. All medication should be stored safely and in it’s original packaging. Accident forms and Existing Injuries Forms are also required to protect the business legally. Upon enrolment a child must be examined for any existing injuries and detailed correctly on the forms again with a signature by both parties. Child care Agreement Form, like the child record form contains mandatory information, however this form is the contract between parent and child care provider. Standard agreements can be purchased online from National Association of Child-minders. They provide information to parents about what they are signing up for and they have access to professional that can help with legal issues relating to contracts. The consent given by parents plays a big role in the daily activities of the child in day care. The Outgoing and Consent Forms as well as Vehicle record and Parent permission form is required in order for the child to participate in recreational activities. It provides the business with authority to take the child out of day care. The business should have the correct insurance in place if the child is being taken out of the care setting during contracted hours. Appropriate vehicle insurance is also essential if the child is being driven by a member of staff. Additional forms are also required to be kept by a childcare business. Finance records detailing transactions between two parties, Fire Safety detailing correct evacuation details and Complaints Records helping to deal with concerns are also required to be kept. All Records can be shared with Ofsted and other independent bodies. Staff are subjected to a CRB check before commencing employment, this will give the employer an insight into the background of the employee as well as any criminal history. All forms mentioned above can be found on Pacey[2] website to help facilitate the admin process. In order to maintain the strict operation of a child care business from a home setting, we need to understand the importance of housing information that is directly linked to the child. There are several forms that are in place in order to help the business understand the child and their needs more closely. We can conclude by looking at the nature of the forms required, that the main purpose of the information, is provided without any flaws a safe and secure environment for any child attending. Keeping documents updated can mean the difference between a good and an outstanding Ofsted rating. Nabeelah Lallmamode   Describe the range of activities that can be used to stimulate a child’s development. Reference must be made to physical, intellectual and social development for both babies (0-12 months) and children (1-5 years). In order for a child’s brain to develop, they must have experienced a range of activities, which help them to differentiate between gross motor skills and fine motor skills. We will look closely at activities that fall inline with the skills mentioned above and how this can help a child’s development intellectually, socially and physically. Regardless of age group, a child needs to be exposed to certain experiences and environment in order to build on their mental and physical health. Gross motor skills, is developed through physical play. This can be expressed through crawling, rolling around and supervised free movement from babies ranging from 0-12 months. This can be backed up by ‘Motor development occurs in an orderly sequence, starting with lifting the head, then rolling over, sitting up, crawling, standing, and walking’[3] Developing gross motor skills in children aged 1-5 can be argued to be easier as they are more able to participate in physical activity without the help of their parents. Activities such as, skipping and running help to encourage strength and coordination. Other activities help to enhance physical development of gross motor skills such as throwing and catching a ball helping to develop coordination skills, riding a bike helps to teach balance, hopscotch which can be regarded as an intellectual game; strengthens numeracy skills as well as developing physical movements. These gross motor skills are developed into Fine Motor Ski lls in later years. Fine Motor skills, develops skills and control of muscle movements. Examples of this would be fastening clothing, writing, drawing and using a knife and fork during meal times. These activities require coordinated and precise movements, which help to build a child’s development. Babies ranging from 0-12 months require a lot of care and attention in order to stimulate a child’s development you must hold your baby as much as possible so they feel warm personal interactions like hugging, eye contact and smiling. Playing and reading to your baby as well as using Multi sensory books are excellent in aiding you child to listen and hear music see the colours and feel different textures of materials. This greatly helps stimulate a baby’s intellectual development, which can again be improved upon during later years. ‘Provide your child with social experiences with other children by age 2 years. If he or she is not in day care, consider starting or joining a play group. Young children can learn important lessons from each other, especially how to get along with other people.’[4] Toddlers require different activities to help developed their physical, intellectual and social development, which begins from 12 months. An excellent activity to carry out with them would be board games as it helps to develop strategic thinking and coordination. It is also recommended that asking them questions will help develop their intellect and also prepare them for social conversations in the future. Teaching sign language at the age of 7-8 months will enable them to sign by themselves in the future. Providing your child with recreational experiences will enrich their social development. A good type of role-play to use would be a pseudo hospital environment whether your child uses empathy as well as soc ial skills to determine what is wrong with the patient. Helping your child to develop physically, intellectually and socially can begin at a young age. It is important that we express the need to teach our child even as studies have indicated they pick up on audio and visual and sensory communication even from birth. We can conclude even though that a child can not communicate with us, by us communicating with them we are helping to stimulate their development that will help to provide them with the foundation of physical, social and intellectual development later in life. Nabeelah Lallmamode Write a draft food health and safety policy that can be used in the home childcare setting. Reference should be made to the EYFS statutory framework standards. Policy Statement To provide food that is deemed fit for consumption with compromising on dietary/religious needs. To ensure cleanliness and hygiene when dealing with and preparing food for consumption. To maintain without fail a clean, tidy and hygienic area where food is being stored, prepared and consumed in a childcare setting. Code of Conduct: Where meals are to be provided, they should be healthy, balanced and nutritious. Due to religious beliefs and dietary needs, the ingredients used and method of preparation should be individual to the worker/child’s needs if required. All food is to be checked before consumption by the workers within the childcare setting to minimise the risk of poisoning. Requirements: It is a must that the correct training is given to each member responsible for handling food. Fresh drinking water should be provided during every mealtime. Providers must record and act on information provided by parents of the children attending the childcare setting. There must be a well-maintained, hygienic area where food is being prepared and consumed. Where deemed necessary baby equipment used when aiding consumption should be sterilized before and after it’s use. If for any reason the member dealing with food is unwell or unable to handle food they should notify a superior. Any food incidents resulting in a two or more children becoming unwell will need to be reported to Ofsted or Child minder agency of which they are registered. Notification must be made within 14 days unless stated otherwise. Daily Practices: Food is fit for consumption. Make sure food is handled in the correct manner. Make sure the food is of the highest quality as expected by health officials. Food is not to be mislabeled or stored in a way that could make it harmful for consumption. Records of where the food is brought from will need to be detailed. If food additives are to be used make sure they are safe and will not compromise a child’s dietary needs or religious beliefs. A registered provider who fails to comply with all of the above, without reasonable excuse/circumstances, will be committing an offence. Nabeelah Lallmamode Construct a travel plan, which discusses the various factors that need to be taken into consideration when carrying out a visit from the childcare setting. Travel plans can be defined as being a package of actions designed by a workplace, school or other organisation to encourage safe, healthy and sustainable travel options.[5] In this assignment we will be looking at the effectiveness of these plans and implement different situation’s and it’s outcome. In order to make a journey safe we must evaluate different factors that can influence and alter the pattern of travelling. When carrying out a travel plan from a childcare setting we can look to various means of transportation such as walking, public transport and personal transport. If travel is being planned under the basis of walking various factors will need to be focused on. Depending on the age of the child in the childcare setting we have to establish whether he or she is physically able to walk the distance. The childcare setting will need to establish if there is sufficient pushchairs/wheelchairs, reigns and reflective tabards for the children, any equipment used will need to be tested beforehand. Not only is it essential to plan before setting out, it is also essential to teach the children about different signs and situations that can occur whilst on path to the destination. Children need to be taught about road safety and the best way to do this is through theory and practice. By teaching children about road safety (do’s and don’ts) pelican crossing, green man signals and Zebra crossing we are expanding their road safety knowledge. Embedding safety practices such as stop, look and listen will help build awareness of the traffic on road. It is often expected that public transport will be used during travel and making the children aware of the correct procedures when using these services will also provide them with the safety knowledge required. We have to establish the children’s independence of using public transport. Will they be able to stand and wait for the transport? Will transportation be used during rush hour? If so how can we decrease risk and increase awareness. Children will also need to be made aware of the risks present when using trains such as minding gaps and standing behind the yellow line. There are many activities, highlighted on government website[6] that can be practiced before setting out. Issuing correct paper work and obtaining consent also helps build a secure travel plan. When carrying out visitation from a childcare setting, the persons responsible (a CRB checked employee) will need to have all correct documentation in place such as consent forms. A first aid kit must be carried at all times by the worker along with a means of communication. Workers required, is dependent on group size. . If visitation is carried out through means of personal transport such as car or company van the correct, ‘vehicle record and permission to travel in a vehicle’ consent form is required. We are made aware on a daily basis through the means of advertisement, the safety and cautiousness that is required when travelling ourselves. It is even more essential to implement these procedures when carrying out visitation from a childcare setting. As can be seen above various methods and practices can be explored before a child is exposed to such activities and all this plays a part in constructing an effective travel plan. Safety awareness is all too important and helping to embed these into a child from an early age we positively increase awareness when they are travelling by themselves in later years. Disney Movie Analysis: Lady and the Tramp

Disney Movie Analysis: Lady and the Tramp Zeinab Kobeissi Abstract Lady and the Tramp is a Disney cartoon considered one of their classics and based on Disney’s conventional plot which circles around two main protagonists comprised of the damsel in distress, Lady, and the hero who comes to her rescue, Tramp. This essay aims to examine reinforced stereotypes, stigmas and certain roles that are portrayed through characters in The Lady and the Tramp, while also discussing the influence and the insights of the protagonists in the cartoon. Keywords: Hollywood, Disney, misrepresentations, stereotypes, stigmas Lady and the Tramp There is a very typical Disney scenario that is present in â€Å"Lady and the Tramp†. There is always a damsel in distress that needs to be rescued, and in this particular animation it is a Cocker Spaniel called Lady, that is owned by a married couple that lives in a wealthy suburban region, and is quite pampered. She is a good-looking female dog with big inviting eyes, long and thick eyelashes and a groomed coat. She is comparable to other Disney female characters like the little mermaid, Cinderella, Snow White, etc. because she embodies the stereotypical beautiful and attractive female. For every damsel in distress there is always a hero ready to save her. The hero here is called, Tramp; a free spirited ladies’ man. Surprisingly, he doesn’t fit into the traditional male hero role when it comes to his appearance (a street dog) but, like all heroes, he ends up winning the female’s heart and they live happily ever after together. According to Disney’s Dolls article, archetypal Disney characters who are generally young females are in their nature happy and remain in suspended animation awaiting a man who would give them a life of adventure and meaning (Kathie Maoi, 1998). Here, Tramp rescues Lady after she is attacked by dogs that pursued her when she escaped from her foster’s house. Lady was under the care of Jim Dear and Darling, right until Tramp came along. Although Lady is not a human, she is nonetheless created with some makeup on, shaped eyebrows, long feminine eyelashes with big blue eyes and flowing hair; groomed and physically taken care of, unlike Tramp. Her speech is also quite refined and reflects a rather high status as a dog. Lady is purely another version of other Disney female characters that are repeatedly depicted as dependent, powerless damsels that fall into danger and require a male hero to save them from the trenches. (TV Tropes, n.d). The plot of the movie itself is not as complex as other Disney animations since here there are no actual villains but instead situations that simply oppose the two protagonists, like Aunt Sarah (the temporary foster) and the dog catchers. It is still however, a story centered on love and romance, highlighted in scenes like when Tramp invited Lady out for on a date at an Italian restaurant and they ended up kissing, and when he ultimately won her heart by attacking the rat at the end. The animation in its core is somewhat different from other classical Disney movies since all the leading characters are dogs. The supporting characters are the Siamese cats and the two human men Tony and Joe, the Italian owner/manager and chef. It still however presents characters that are charged with Asian, Mexican, Russian and Italian stereotypes. The Siamese cats in the movie, Si and Am, are represented with clichà ©d Asian manners of speech and typical slanted eyes. Their personalities are quite sneaky and cunning, always plotting and do not have the best of intentions. They even trashed the house’s living room where Lady was living, attempted to devour the pet fish, and even put the blame on Lady for the clutter that they themselves caused. Siamese cats in their nature however, are actually quite affectionate, reliable, and friendly, so their real characteristics were not reflected, but instead presented under false stereotypes of Siamese cats and of cats in general (Pet Wave, n.d). â€Å"Lady and the Tramp† was released soon after the Korean War ended and stereotypes of Asians were very widespread in the states, which explains the hidden implication of the Siamese cats. There is also the Chihuahua, Pedro, who lives in the dog pound and of course, has exaggerated Mexican traits and features. He is given a heavy Latino accent and actually says that he is in the country illegally. He appears only in the scene where Lady is taken to the dog pound after she is caught, and he is doing nothing except sitting in a pile of straw throughout the entire scene. He only says two lines in the whole movie; â€Å"pardon me, amigo. What is this ‘chili heel?† and â€Å"my sister Rosita Chiquita Juanita Chihuahua, I think†, both indicating the typical Mexican stereotypes of them having long names and being uneducated, obviously generalizing and misrepresenting (Pierre, 1999). These are among the standard stereotypes of Mexicans that are still evident today, continuously â€Å"[they are] portrayed as illiterate criminals†¦lazy, dirty, and physically unattractive† (Holder, 2012). There is also Boris, a Russian wolfhound that has a heavy Russian accent and is seen as the philosopher and deep thinker in the dog pound scene. Here there is more of a positive stereotypical representation of Russians that indeed portrays how Russians were once the heart of European philosophy, but is still a stereotype nonetheless. As a matter of fact, it was refreshing to see a constructive portrayal of Russians as they are often linked to the Mafia in American media (Ferguson, n.d.). There are also Toni and Joe who work at Toni’s restaurant, where the Tramps took Lady for their dinner date, who are both based on predictable Italian stereotypes as being chubby and jovial people who speak in a heavy accent and always use fast hands gestures. This is also a stereotype that steered away from the expected Mafia/gang association that is shown in mainstream media, but nevertheless does not reflect the truths of all Italians (Ferguson, n.d.). Some other representations are present in this Disney movie that are not exactly grounded on stereotypes but more on stigmas and positive images. The scene of the rat creeping into the babies’ room at the end of the movie to bite him does not seem very credible, and there exists a repetitive stigma of rats being wicked, crafty, and filthy, regularly correlated with disease and grime (TV Tropes, n.d.). Although the rat is not given an identity or a name, it is reproduced in such a negative light that the audience can easily form a negative image of rats in real life. When it comes to positive images, Lady’s’ neighbors, Jock and Trusty who are also her friends, are given positive roles that mirror true dog qualities such as outgoingness and devotion and even the obsession of burying bones in the yard (TV Tropes, n.d.). It is safe to say that Lady and the Tramp is a typical cartoon that is full of stereotypes and unreasonable beauty standards that are recurrently seen in other Disney classics. It heavily displays stereotypes that ultimately generate stigmas on particular ethnic groups like Asians and Latinos, which eventually lead to outbursts of aggression towards such minorities (Ferguson, n.d.). This warps the perceptions of such races and nationalities and even some animals, as in the case of the rat and cats as a whole, for young viewers who are exposed to these (mis)representations (Ferguson, n.d.). Lady and the Tramp is still probably a less intense version of other Disney movies that are fueled with heavy stereotypes, such as Aladdin, who rely greatly on negative stigma to formulate images of certain groups of peoples that usually end up being very far from accurate. Some call it “horror'; and some call it “the super germ';, but now, our always known “regular'; bacteria, those one-celled creatures once considered under control with antibiotics, have invaded our hospitals and headlines with a vengeance. The vengeance used against us is caused by an existing organism called necrotizing fasciitis, the so-called flesh-eating bacteria, caused by Group A streptococcus. What this organism does is progressively destroy the human body tissue all the way to the bone. This organism has amazingly outsmarted us of even our most potent drugs.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  In our community right now, medical researchers are testing antibiotics that may have chemicals to disable the resistance of this organism. But while research continues, it is vital to be aware of how these deadly germs spread and what we can do to prevent them.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Long before humans discovered antibiotics, they existed in nature. So naturally, after penicillin was introduced, some germs were already naturally resistant to the drug. As we used more and more of the antibiotics, we incidentally caused drug-resistant germs to progress. So, even if you’ve never misused antibiotics, you could still become infected by bacterium most drugs won’t kill. Ninety-Five Theses Paper

During the earlier years of Christianity, at a time when most Catholic leaders were focused on political values rather than spiritual values, people would pay money for indulgences in order to remove the temporal punishments attached to their sins. Michael Mullet's non-fiction work Martin Luther's Ninety-Five Theses studies the roots of the Protestant Reformation by giving detailed background information on Martin Luther and how Luther contributed to a religious revolution which would change the way of Christian life.Martin Luther's work allowed people to question their faith and gave people the courage to open their own churches even in the face of powerful Catholic leaders. By looking at how Luther interpreted ancient religious scriptures in order to understand God, we are able to see how he transformed into one of the greatest theologians in history and â€Å"broke the hold of the Catholic Church over Europe† (Mullet, 2003, p. 46) One of Luther's first major steps into foll owing his beliefs was defying his father's ishes for his son to become a lawyer and instead Luther became an augustinian monk.Luther was not Just simply being rebellious, but rather was driven by spiritual turmoil when comprehending God and his teachings which led Luther to immerse himself in his studies regarding the sacred texts. Through years of internal conflict and searching for religious purpose Luther was able to reach enlightenment by interpreting God's Judgment as something that should not be feared when faith alone is what brought you salvation.So when he witnessed papal indulgences he ungracefully nailed his 95 Theses to the door of a church arguing against the sales of indulgences which intimidated the church with bold statements that questioned their and God's power. Martin Luther's 95 Theses quickly grew into something more than Just a debate between powers and spread throughout Europe with the help of the printing press. The church was incapable of ignoring Luther's s harp statements and it seemed Luther made no hesitation to push back against authority if he was given the chance.The papal authority could not allow Luther to continue threatening their standing in power and ultimately branded Luther as a heretic and banished him from the Holy Roman Empire. Luther was able to hide in a castle with the help of his friends and once in solitude he was able to translate the New Testament into German for the public to read and interpret on their own. Martin Luther's courage to stand up against the Catholic church gave others the strength to choose and question religion, but peace among the new churches and the Catholic churches would not exist ithout the shed of blood and powerful claims.Martin Luther's concept of God arose from his deep anxiety and is described by Michael Mullet in his book Martin Luther's Ninety-Five Theses as â€Å"sinners won acceptance from the God the Father – were ‘Justified' – not actively, through their goo d deeds, but passively and simply by taitn r st na died on the Cross to save them† (p. 47). Luther gave us the power to break the holy chains binding people to their faith and explore a world without limitations. Financial Aid is Not Always the Answer Essay

The United States is known for getting involved in affairs that does not concern them all in the name of foreign policy. Nonetheless, its stance regarding its foreign policies have undoubtedly helped other nations especially those economically-challenged at the same time serving the US’ own interest. However, its policy in relation to Armenia and the so-called Armenian Genocide is nil to the least. As it is the United States’ aim to help Armenia, it has not yet officially recognized that the Armenian Genocide indeed occurred. Admittedly, democracy in Armenia is still a work in progress and it still has a long way to go especially now that elections are set this year. The United States despite its hesitation to fully acknowledge the atrocities committed by the Turks in 1915 and even until now against the Armenians, can nevertheless help in aiding Armenia and put a stop to the Armenian genocide. There is no easy way but to go head on. The first step would be to appoint and send an Ambassador that fully knows and understands the situation and plight of the Armenians. When John Evans, Ambassador to Armenia used the word â€Å"genocide† in public to describe the deaths of some 1. 2 million Armenians at the hands of the Ottoman Turks, this prompted a controversy that eventually cost Evans his job. Although none of the Ambassadors, other than Evans has affirmed and recognized the Armenian genocide during Senate confirmation hearings, it is imperative that the members of the diplomatic corps or nominees for the ambassador post must recognize and understand as well as refer to the Armenian genocide. Once this is done, other forms as well as policies of aiding will soon follow. Nonetheless, it cannot be denied that despite the aids sent by the United States, totaling to $75 million seemed to be not working at all. In fact, instead of going back to their national homeland, Armenians have left the country, including the 30 percent of its working population. The country is wrought with corruption and poverty and despite the immense aid provided from foreign sources, the country seems like it has just recovered from the genocide. Hence, in order to help the Armenians, change must start from within the country because admittedly even if foreign aid would still continue, it would still be useless considering that the money for aid sent is not used for the growth of the country. The United States has supported the Georgians and the Ukrainians in their quest for change in their respective countries. If it will support, even encourage the Armenians in its quest for a revolutionary and peaceful change, through its policies, perhaps it could help the Armenians who are still languishing in poverty and corruption. Therefore, the financial aid that it is providing for the Armenians is not the way to aid the Armenians and the victims of genocide. It is to help them shape their internal policies and shape the country into a clean and habitable homeland. The bottom line for this is: if we really want to help the Armenians and the victims of genocide, then it is imperative that we recognize what happened in 1915 as it is – genocide in the least. The Armenian Genocide undoubtedly has prompted the first large-scale international human rights movement in the United States and financial aid is not just enough, we have make sure that this does not happen again, not only in Armenia but in other countries as well to which the United States has vested interests.
